Kingwood is known as a community that exists harmoniously with nature. Our livable forest is heavily wooded and boasts over 20 different types of trees; the magnolia tree, tall pine tree and stately oak dominating the forest.
Running streams and ponds compliment the forest, which is home to an array of wildlife including several species of native birds as well as deer and squirrels. The forest also features over 75 miles of walking and biking trails. These nature trails are referred to as the Greenbelt. These wandering trails join villages, parks and schools.
Over 500 acres of Kingwood land has been dedicated as parks and nature preserves. Almost every village in Kingwood features a small community park. Kingwood also has several larger parks: Deer Ridge, East End, River Grove and the Creekwood Nature Area as well as beautiful Lake Houston.
River Grove Park amenities include fishing and picnic areas, soccer fields and a boat launch into Lake Houston. Deer Ridge Park has a duck pond, tennis courts and sports fields. East End Park is a nature preserve.
Lake Houston Park is comprised of nearly 5,000 acres of lush forest and calm waters. Lake Houston is a man-made lake and reservoir. The Lake offers mountain biking, equestrian, hiking and biking trails. You can also enjoy such water sports such as canoeing and kayaking. Fishing is also allowed.
The Lake Houston Park Nature Center is perfect for all age groups to learn about the lake and the forest’s ecosystems. The Nature Center hosts various fun and fact filled adventures each weekend.
